GCSE Maths

I’m currently working at a grade 2 in GCSE maths, and I would like to achieve a grade 6. I’m in yr 10, if that helps. has anyone been in this position before and how did you improve?

hi there, i would find the topics you struggle with most and watch youtube videos on them so you can understand them better. do practice questions on those topics to consolidate your knowledge and ask your teachers for help too! hope that helps 🙂

I think the best way to improve is to just practice practice practice. To get a grade 6 you don't need to know how to do ( or answer ) the more difficult questions and maths topics so I suggest you look at stuff from from grade 1 to grade 7 topics. Maths genie is a good website to gauge where a topic lies in terms of grade for that. When practicing questions in each topic, try to do as many different types of questions. When I say type, I mean the way the question is laid out because 2 questions testing the same skill could seem completely different. I would suggest you don't start looking at past papers until you're confident in most of the topics, and make sure to do those timed without the mark scheme. Lastly, don't be afraid to ask for help in lessons! I know everyone says this but you can always ask and if you've been practicing a topic you don't get it doesn't hurt to ask about that to your teacher either.
Anyways, those are a few things I could think of
You've got lots of time to get that grade 6,just makes sure you're practicing regularly. Doing a 5 a day from corbettmaths for foundation and eventually higher when you are improving more could help w that
Good luck!!

if you are going for a grade 6 you just need those first 15 questions (about this number it may vary per paper and exam board) and to get them spot on. Dont worry to much about not being able to do the harder questions late on. For maths it is really quite simple all you need to do is practise practise practise. You have time because you are in year 10 so don't stress too much. Savemyexams.com is amazing for every subject tbh especially maths (promise im not a sponsored ad LMAO) . It breaks it down into every topic and the levels of difficulty for each question and some questions have work through videos. Slight drawback is that you have to pay but I think it is so worth it. Sometimes the mark scheme can be confusing and if you put the paper and year into youtube you will defo be able to find a full work through Your teachers will also be more than happy to help. Drop them a message or just stay back and let them know if you are struggling with a topic and you can arrange a session to go through it with them. maybe allocate 20mins a day to practise a topic you find hard - remember it is a marathon not a sprint and maybe it'll take you longer than others to grasp a topic but as long as you get there in the end it could not matter any less how and when you got there. You got this I really hope you go and smash your exams. Good Luck!!! Lmk if you have any other questions
