Hi there, I just finished my first year of Chemistry at Keele a week ago. Personally, I dont think you need to do much preparation for the course for Septemeber since the first few weeks of the semester is relativley easy. Avoid diving too deep into the actual course content over the summer. I get the instinct to prep (I did the same), but the way things are taught at uni can be different to A-levels or online resources, and sometimes it’s more of a pain to unlearn things than to learn them fresh.

Now its hard to say what you need to prepare since they're going to change the course structure slightly but in the first few weeks you'll cover basics e.g. representing molecules, acids and bases, spectroscopy (fairly similar to physics if you did this at A-Levels) etc...

My tips for now is make sure you remember the different structures there are e.g. square planar, octahedral and so on, and knowing how to do proton NMR. Best advice is looking at videos on how to use Excel on youtube, you'll be using this a lot to process data from labs etc (making graphs, doing calculations, knowing a few short cuts). Also, if you havent done A-Level maths, make sure you can do the basics of differentiations, logarithms, rearranging equations, unit conversions, and simultaenous equations (they will teach you this though dont worry).

All of the lecturers are recorded (so you can rewatch it if you're stuck) and staff are really friendly - they ease you into the content so dont stress about it! Also, once you get your log in details there will be so many videos helping you navigate resources for the university. Ensure you have a good rest over the holidays - try not to burn yourself out like I did.

I hope this was helpful - if you have any other questions I can try my best to answer them! Good luck for results day!
