Hi from a Y11 student who finishes school in a month 😝! You could definetly do all 3 of those subjects for a-level at college! (I don’t think you will be able to do any of those subjects for apprenticeships but don’t quote me 😭 I chose the completely opposite career branch from you: biology, chemistry and photography) I’m not sure what careers you could pursue after a-levels with those subjects but it depends if you are interested in further education such as University after college because by the end of the day that is what opens the most opportunities for you. When it comes to the grades you need for certain colleges or to study certain subjects, each college is different. For example, at my college for me to study Biology and Chemistry I need a 6 at GCSE in those subjects and I need a 5 in higher maths (hoping for a 6 🤞🏼) whilst for Photography, they prefer the person to have a GCSE in art but it is not required. All of this information can be found on college’s websites.

When choosing a college, it’s okay to not have an idea of where you want to go. At the start of the year I told myself I’m going to such and such and I didn’t even apply to those colleges 😭. For me personally, (now this is different for everyone) my school organised college fairs, where different colleges came in and sold themselves to you and why you should study with them post 16, we also had assemblies, where colleges would come in and talk about entry requirements and grade requirements to study certain subjects. If that hasn’t happened for you yet, I’m assuming that will happen for you in Y11, I mean your school must provide some sort of guidance in this process, if not there’s people like me 😄! For me, I was told to apply to a minimum of 3 colleges and I would recommend that truly as you never know what could happen. For example, there might not be enough space on a course you want to do or you may not meet the entry requirements (I highly doubt the second reason, I mean predicted a 7 in Maths? 😭 jealous.) When choosing a college, there are 2/3 factors you must consider:

- how you are going to get there (are you going to get dropped of, are you going to get the bus, is it convenient?)

- do they have the subjects you want to study?

- do YOU truly want to go there? (are you applying because your friend is applying or do you geniuenly want to go there?

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong in applying/going to the same college as your high school friends. (I’m not but I have my reasons 😭) But when it comes to applying to colleges, you need to put all of that aside and think what YOU want to do and where YOU want to go. By the end of the day, you are going to be attending that college and studying those subjects for 2 years so don’t make the wrong choice and be regretful later on.

I think I’ve answered all of your questions there, I may have went on a tangent and not realised but hopefully this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask

Hi @gabi.23

It’s great that you’re starting to think about your future. Right now, focus on doing your best in your GCSEs, as these are very important and can influence your A-level choices and university options later on. Start researching the entry requirements for universities that offer law or other subjects you’re interested in. This includes both the necessary GCSE grades and the A-levels you need to take. Doing so will help guide your choices and keep your options open. You have time, so take it step by step. Hope this helps.

Hi! No worries!

I’m not sure whether you could get an apprenticeship as a lawyer, however I’m 100% sure to support your application to law school, in college you would be able to do some work experience at a law firm.

America and China are a great choice! Both of these places have a high demand for highly educated people so they would kindly take you in!

Since your interested in law I’m going to assume your quite good at English. I’m in Y11 currently doing my GCSEs and I’m wondering if you have any tips/ strategies for English Language Paper 2, it’s okay if not or if you want to gatekeep, I completely understand but I really need some tips as Paper 1, was okay but the creative writing section is definitely carrying 😭

Of course i can try give some tips! So for question one what i lot of people do is already read the whole extract, however in my opinion you should just read the lines they give to you and be very picky on which statements you pick as they need to be exact. For question 2, i would recommend doing 2 lengthy paragraphs and make clear contrasts between both sources, for example use comparisons like “where as” “in contrast to” or if it’s similarities; “this coincides with eg. source A because..”. For question 3 zoom in on the word choices and the connotations around it. Use lots and lots of subject terminology (the most common i’ve seen are metaphors and sibilance). Try and use a specific structure because in my opinion it keeps people from going off topic so for eg i use PRETZEL (point, reference, explain, techniques, zoom in on one word, explain so like give connotation on what it links to, and then link back to the overall question). For question 4 include quotes from both texts, then compare the effects on both readers so it gives clear understanding. And honestly question 5 is the worst one for me so i really don’t know how to help but i hope this helps and goodluck on your exam!!

Hi thank you so much! I really struggle with timings when it comes to the English exams so the first bit of advice is quite useful! For Q5 on English Language Paper 1, I memorised a story and just adjusted but with this paper it’s a little trickier to do but it’s fine I’ll manage 😭
Once again thank you so much for your tips and for the good luck wish, I need it and thanks once again  Feel free to reach out whenever you need it
