Was I in the wrong?

Was I in the wrong? My girl got acrylic nails and I told her I really liked them but I preferred the one she got 2 months ago as it looked more flashy and her current acrylic nails look toned down but I said I really liked her current nails but I still preferred the other design a bit more. She got moody about my comment.

Listen, unless she specifically asked you which you liked more, you do not criticise her fashion, clothes, nails makeup or whatever. You do not get a say in that. Nails are expensive, just say that you liked them and let her be happy!

You handled the situation perfectly, in terms of what you said. You were open and honest and diplomatic.

You used a push pull. A positive comment "I really like them" followed by a negative comment "but I prefer the ones from 2 months ago."
That's good man to woman (or woman to woman) social skills.

With her mood you should maintain your frame that you're going to continue to have a great day and stay in a great mood yourself, regardless of whatever mood she happens to get into.

She will respect you more if you're not the sort of man that kisses her backside all the time.
As long as your general vibe with her is bright and breezy with a default mode of "I'm OK, you're OK".

She asked my opinion I was just being candid. I don't like to sugar coat.

Sugar coating would probably taste better than acrylic but it wouldn't stay on the nails as long.
