okay these are the 2 things that js boosted my grade
1) wriitng practice essays on every theme. there are only 5-6 key themes for each text bc sometimes themes overlap, so writing an essay, handing it to ur teacher to mark, then read the feedback and read MODEL ANSWERS and watch yt videos, and if u didn't get a good score in ur opinion then redo the essay with this new knowledge. by writing essays u develop ur own essay style and improve ur technique which is what caps u.
2) i think this was the main thing for me to actually improve, but having good POINTS. idk if this is obvious and known, but no one ever explicitly said it to me, but u need to have seperate points. so for example, if ur writing an essay on maybe ambition in macbeth, you should have 3 different ideas - i used to just write like 'ambition causes macbeth's downfall and this is shown by' and i wld js repeat that, and even if ur analysis is good it doesn't reach the highest marks.
u need to have 3 distinct ideas about ambition, so for example, 1) it corrupts morality, 2) drives macbeth to violence and tyranny , 3) idk maybe how it cld be intertwined w the supernatural

if u struggle to think of distinc points, what i do is i write all of the key themes, for macbeth i think there's 6? and then i take the theme eg ambition, and try find a way to link it to 3 other themes; and then i make points. if u have good points in ur topic sentences it shows ur being perceptive and not just saying the basic thing which gets u into that top band

i wld make essay plans w 3 points for each theme and then write the essays
if u need any more advice lmk!!

okay so i wld plan a few basic story ideas beforehand that u can adapt, it's good to think of a cyclical structure or plot twits before hand as that's hard to think of in the exam.

also i rlly recommend this i had this book called a 'descriptosaurus' and everyone flamed me for it bc its '9-14' 😭 but geneuinely, i used to be rlly stuck on creative writing, but i found this book in my house and it has so many phrases and words etc for describing settings, emotions, people, and i wld js read thru them and pick and mix different phrases, and also it helps u think of ur own words,
like it helped me to realise how to write my own phrases withoit taking them- for example w emotions, u can lit js take any emotion , find a synonym, and then put a painful verb - 'fear strangled me with its vice like grip' sorry that's not that good but u get the point also sorry if i sound like i'm mansplaining lmao .
but if u can't get that book it's fine but, ome main thing i did, was i wldn't alwways write out full creative writings, sometimes yeah but not always, but i wld write our descriptions of certain places such as a forest or a beach and practice writing those, and then i wld look at a creative writing prompt and see if i can adapt my descriptions to the promp and js add a bit, that way u can be prepared as u already have descriptions to say
