Will my GCSES affect my uni application?

Hey so I'm currently sitting my gcses ->
Realistically ill get:
Maths - 9
Russian - 9
Drama - 8
Further Maths - 8
Geography - 7
English lit - 6
English lang - 6
Combined Science - 65
Religious Studies - 5
Spanish- 6

I'm applying for bsc/msci in mathematics with economics and I will work hard to be predicted A* A* A, (as these are the requirements) most russel group Unis in London don't specify any gcse requirements other than LSE, however in terms of competitiveness I feel like I may be lacking even if I get the Alevel predicted grades if a person gets all 8/9 s they are more likely to choose them? Idk

You are absolutely in the running. Admissions is holistic. A few 6s or a 5 in Religious Studies won’t shut the door especially not when you’re crushing the relevant subjects and pushing for AAA.

I suggest you focus now on

Getting the top A-level predictions

Building a killer personal statement and supercurriculars.

Applying with confidence and a smart strategy.

Even if your GCSE profile isn’t “perfect,” your application can still stand out. Feel free to Keep in touch with me. I can be your talk mate until you achieve this.

Hi Lizzie (:

Good luck with the rest of your GCSEs - it sounds like you're on track for some great results, If the universities you're applying to don’t have specific GCSE requirements, then you’re all good on that front! - im guessing you have probably already noticed this but just wanted to highlight to you to make sure your checking requirements for all unis your thinking of as this may differ from place to place! 😊

When it comes to standing out in your application, it’s less about having all 8s/9s and more about showing your passion for the subject. Things like relevant extracurriculars, reading and experiences that link to maths or economics (or transferrable skills) can really help - it shows you're genuinely interested and motivated, which admission teams like to see.

Try not to worry too much about what others might have if you meet the requirements and show strong interest, your application will absolutely be considered fairly. (:

Hope this helps & goodluck with the rest of your exams!!
