Hi! I’m Anoosha, a current MSc Earth Futures student at the University of Glasgow, and I also did my undergraduate degree here in Geography. Coming back for postgrad was an easy choice for me because I knew how much support, flexibility, and inspiration UofG offers students at every stage.
As a postgraduate at Glasgow, you’re part of a huge and diverse academic community, over 10,000 postgraduate students from more than 140 countries study here every year. That diversity really shows in classes and events: I’ve had the chance to work alongside people from different disciplines and backgrounds, which makes discussions and projects so much richer. The university also offers both taught programmes (like MScs, MLitts, and MRes degrees) and research degrees (like MPhils and PhDs), so whether you’re here for career development or academic research, there’s a path that fits.
What I’ve personally loved about postgrad study here is the balance between academic challenge and tailored support. My classes are small and seminar-based, which means you get to know your lecturers and peers, and there’s space for in-depth discussion. There’s also a real emphasis on research skills, critical thinking, and independent work, but you’re never left on your own. Each programme has a dedicated programme convenor and student support officers, and there are drop-in sessions, writing workshops, and tailored careers advice through the UofG Careers Service, which is super helpful when you’re thinking about what’s next.
Postgrads also get access to exclusive study spaces, like the postgraduate-only floors in the library and the postgraduate research hub in the Advanced Research Centre (ARC), a beautiful new space where you can work quietly, collaborate with others, or grab a coffee and catch up. There are also postgraduate-specific events and networks, like the Postgraduate Society in the Students’ Representative Council and regular networking mixers, film nights, and panel discussions organised through the College of Social Sciences and Graduate School.
Outside of class, Glasgow is an amazing place to live as a postgrad. It’s affordable, packed with character, and there’s always something happening, from festivals and art exhibitions to gigs and community events. I still love exploring neighbourhoods, especially in spring and summer, when the parks come alive and you can spend your bright evenings by the river or watching sunset from the hill in Kelvingrove Park.
Whether you're thinking about postgraduate study to deepen your expertise, pivot careers, or just continue learning, UofG has a huge range of options to suit different goals, and a strong, supportive community to help you thrive. Feel free to ask me anything about my experience or life as a postgrad in Glasgow, I’m always happy to chat!
