Balancing the three PPE aspects.

Hi, I really want to study PPE at a high level university, in particular with Oxford being where I want to go most, but I'm slightly concerned as I have pretty much no philosophical knowledge. I'm going to try and read a few books on philosophy but I wanted to ask anyone with a similair experience what you talked about in your personal statement? I know you can drop one after a year so is it fine if you mainly discuss two of the three aspects?

It’s always a good idea to include all three disciplines in your personal statement. While you don’t need any philosophical knowledge to get in, it would certainly help during your philosophy interview, especially if you’re targeting Oxford. You might be able to get away with one discipline in your interviews, but for me, who did all three in separate interviews, there’s simply no hiding place if you can’t use your skills (rather than what you know) in the questions they ask. If you’re interested in Oxford, I’m sure you’ve done some TSA practices, which would have helped you build some foundational knowledge of the logic involved in year 1 philosophy. This might give you a taste of the philosophy side of things. To be honest, if you choose to neglect one discipline, it would be difficult to believe that you are dedicated to the entire course.
