Really regret my A level choices

I am currently in year 13 and we’ve reached the end of the school year. But for a while, ive really been contemplating my A level choices, and I really regret what I picked.

When I first joined 6th form, i thought i wouldnt stay, so I didnt put much thought into what I picked. Im also the first in my family to stay through 6th form and go to uni, so I didnt get any guidance from my family on what to pick.

The A levels I chose were Biology, Business, and Criminology. I know these are really random. I am going to University to do Biomedical Science, and luckily Cardiff Met accepts just one science subject, but I have to do a foundation year. I really REALLY wish I picked something like chemistry instead of criminology, because criminology in itself is practically a useless ‘A level’ and I absolutely hate everything about it.

Idk im just venting and im punching myself over my stupid choices. My advice to you younglings will be to speak to someone before you pick your A levels and definitely do NOT pick criminology.

Sadly things like this happen in real life. Thankfully, on a positive note, you are still able to go and study what you want, it'll just take a little longer to get there. Clouds and silver linings

Hello @Joelc07

I am sorry to hear that you have had this experience. It is indeed important that people choose subjects which they enjoy.

I would say that Criminology can be a useful A Level for many students, especially if they want to continue studying social sciences or any forensic science at university. There is much value in the Criminology A Level.

Just want to let you know, some unis will take you even with just the Biology a-level and no second science without having to do a foundation. I know Cardiff uni does this, and i think maybe Leeds and QMUL too. i don’t think they are all accredited though so if that’s important to you, double check. But have a look at the requirements of some other unis and call around, it might save you having to do a foundation year
