Collingwood

Hi everyone!

I’ve been allocated to Collingwood College, and while I’m really excited, I’m not sporty at all and was wondering what the general vibe is like for someone who isn’t into sports. Is it still a good fit for more laid-back or non-sporty students?

Also, I have a few practical questions:

1. What’s the housekeeping situation like? Do they clean your room weekly or is that up to you entirely?
2. Is there a pantry or shared kitchen space available with basic amenities like an induction hob or hotplate?
3.How’s the food at Collingwood? I’m a vegetarian and wanted to know if there are enough decent options on a regular basis.
4. Lastly, how many people usually share a floor? Just curious about the general setup and how social it tends to be.

Thanks!

Hi! I also got allocated Collingwood and I'm not into sports either and I was def worried about this, but I've talked to some ppl at the uni and they said that although the sporty stereotype is true to some extent, as it is such a large college you are bound to find others who are not into sports, so I think it should be fine for us (I hope!)

Collingwood alumni - it is definitely a sporty college but also has a huge music/theatre presence. There is so much to get involved with that you do not have to worry if you are not interested in sports. I would say that the most noticeable thing for me was the amount of privately educated students there, which the question "what school did you go to?" took me aback, but it dies down after a month. RE. the kitchens I was in standard rooms which had 10 of us sharing 2 toilets and 2 showers. There is no kitchen -- a pantry with a microwave, sink and toaster. It is very small but as it is a catered college there is no issue. It is a shame that there is no communal space in your flat but the college JCR, bar, gym etc. provides loads of room beyond your bedroom to hang out with others in. I would say Collingwood is very social - you will meet your people. !

Hiya,

I'm not at Collingwood college but you can speak to Collingwood students on Unibuddy Chat with a student from Durham University - Durham University and they should be able to answer your questions and more!

Hope this helps 🙂
