Warwick Law

Hi all,

I’ve recently received an offer to study LLB Law at Warwick, but unfortunately this came after all of the offer-holder days had taken place. As a result, I feel a bit uncertain about making a fully informed decision.

I also have offers from Manchester (Law with Politics) and Birmingham, and while I’m seriously considering Warwick, I do have some concerns - particularly about the cost of rent, but also I am worried about going to Manchester for moving so far from home. With the UCAS deadline approaching, I’m worried that not choosing Warwick might mean missing out on valuable career opportunities in law. At the same time, I’m hesitant due to factors like the social scene, difficulty of the law course and the fact that it’s not a city-based university.

If any current Warwick Law students could share their experiences, especially around teaching quality, course content, social life, and support for work experience or placements, I’d be really grateful!

I'm not a current Warwick student but I am happy to help talk through your options. Is it your intention to go into law professionally after getting your degree? From someone I know in the industry, there's an old fashioned view that big law firms target particular universities when recruiting graduates but actually the sector is becoming more modern regarding this. So my advice would not be to overthink the career prospects when it comes to comparing Manchester to Birmingham to Warwick - because what will matter a lot more is your degree classification at the end, rather than which university logo appears on the certificate.

Next question - what are the grades attached to each of your offers and how confident are we of achieving your predictions?

Thanks for your response!! I hope to become either an entertainment or media lawyer especially to do with the music industry since it’s one of my passions. The grades I have are A*AA for Warwick/ Manchester and AAA for Birmingham so there isn’t much difference tbh. My main issue with Warwick is price of rented accommodation and location cause I love city life, they said there’s support but I don’t believe I’m eligible. I’m just unsure on whether to firm Birmingham because that will leave me with no backup.

I firmed Leeds (A*AA) and made Nottingham my insurance (AAA). I had an offer from Birmingham AAB+A in EPQ - but I rejected. Having done 5/8 papers I know that I have missed my offer by at least one grade (meaning that I will probably be rejected by both). Trust me firm Birmingham - always go for the lower grade requirements. Now this is obviously my fault, but trust me take this into account. There is a high probability that you will miss your offer by one grade. Law being a very competitive degree, top universities will simply reject you if you miss their requirements.

Sorry I know this question isn’t for me but I also am in the same boat with Warwick law. I have an offer of A*AA and I got 3A* in my mocks but paranoid that I won’t get the offer for my results. Do you have any advice or do you know how lenient they are if you miss your offer? On UCAS it said excluding contextual they have confirmed places for those who got BBB before but not sure still lol

There are no guarantees in this business, just difference scenarios you may face. Ultimately it depends on how many other people miss their offers, and how far you've missed yours by. If they have a space they want to fill and you're only on AAA you may be given a near miss offer. You might not, but it's very common for unis like Warwick to do this - especially if they have a small number of empty seats they want filling. It's easier for them to fill the spaces that way than to go into clearing for that course. The further you are from the offer requirements, the less likely it is you'll slip in. Prepare for the worst hope for the best, during late July and early August map out Plan A, Plan B, Plan C etc. and then you're ready for whatever is presented to you on results day
