uni of surrey or uni of nottingham?

i wanna do microbiology at uni and both unis have really great courses but i'm stuck. league tables say surrey is higher than notts for microbio but notts is higher in international rankings, also it's a russel group. im not too bothered about nightlife and all that i'm just wondering which is better in terms of research facilities and student satisfaction

Rankings are meaningless - they are just marketing fluff, and even academics don't take them seriously.
They can never tell you if you will enjoy that course more, or even like being at the Uni. 'Russell Group' is also just marketing, it does not mean anything significant in the real world.

Have you been to Open Days etc at both of these Unis? What did you like about each one.
If you haven't, then look at the campus tour films etc on YouTube.

Think about course content - look at the optional units for all years of each course and think about the specific units you would choose to do if you went there.

Does either course offer any sort of work placement or study abroad - this adds to your student experience and makes a big difference to your graduate CV.

Cost - living in Nottingham will be much cheaper than Guildford, and Nottingham will be far more interesting.

i've only been to surrey, and i love everthing about it, however i do think that i would enjoy the courses on nottingham more, cos even though they're basically the same, the little differences on each unit is what's making me lean more to nottingham, also neither offer work placement or study abroad for my course. it's just that read that russell groups get more funding so i thought maybe nottingham would have better research facilities and resources

Hi I live in Surrey 20 minutes from Guildford and there is literally nothing to do. There is a shopping centre but you’ll probably have more options in Nottingham. Do you try and visit if you can!
