How to survive exam season?

Exam season can feel like a really stressful time. You're constantly revising, trying to remember everything you've learned over the past couple of years, and it can feel never-ending.

I remember reaching the halfway point and thinking, 'How is there still more to go?' It's completely normal to feel like your motivation is fading but remember all the work you're doing now will pay off.

One thing that helped me stay focused was giving myself little rewards after each exam. It doesn't have to be anything big - maybe a sweet treat, a bit of time watching your favourite show, or even a proper break with friends. Having something to look forward to, no matter how small, can really boost your mood and keep you going.

Most importantly, keep reminding yourself that it will be over soon. The effort you're putting in now will open up opportunities for the future, whether that's university, apprenticeship, certain job or something else you're aiming for.

Do you have any tips for getting through exam season? I'd love to hear what works for you and maybe it can help other people too!

You've got this!

Hi everyone,

Huge congrats for everything you've all done so far towards your exams - as someone who's been there and done it I completely understand how much of a tense and stressful time this can be.

Here are a few things which helped me to stay focussed and motivated during exam season...

Make a revision timetable that includes breaks - this will ensure you cover all you want to whilst making sure you schedule in time for seeing friends, going out, doing something ou enjoy such as a walk, the cinema, lunch out etc - your brain is still processing what you're revising in the background and having breaks can be a very helpful way of consolidating your revision and giving yourself a break to protect yourself from burnout.

Schedule in things to look forward to - how about some celebration time with friends and family, or a holiday (deconflicting with results day of course!) - having a few things in the pipeline for after exams helped me to stay motivated

Eat well and get a good night's sleep. Make sure you're eating enough of a variety of foods to keep you feeling well and healthy, and try to get to bed at a sensible time (there's nothing worse than trying to revise when you're tired during the day!) - this will also allow you to think more clearly and help your wellbeing.

Use your days well, but keep your evenings free - you should have a clear cut off point at, say, 17.00 for example, where you stop revising and start relaxing. Having a wind-down routine is another way of making sure you don't burn out.

Use your friends and teachers - revising can often be a lot more fun if you do it with friends. Perhaps plan a few study sessions? Teaching content to others is another very good way of consolidating it yourself, so studying in groups can be very helpful for this. Also use your teachers - go to any revision classes that are available and ask your teachers to explain something if you're struggling to understand it.

I hope this helps. Just remember that whatever level of stress you're feeling now, it is only temporary and soon you'll all be looking forward to the next chapter of your lives!

Best wishes and best of luck 🙂 🙂 🙂
