Should I take A Level Computer Science or Economics?

Hi, I'm currently sitting my GCSEs and would really appreciate some advice. I'm predicted an 8 in Maths, Physics, and English Literature, a 7 in Computer Science and English Language. For A-levels, I’m planning to take Maths, Further Maths, and Physics, but I’m torn between choosing Computer Science or Economics as my fourth subject. I enjoy coding and problem-solving, but I’m also interested in the analytical side of Economics and did quite well in English-based subjects. If anyone has experience with either subject—especially alongside Maths and Physics—I’d be really grateful to hear your thoughts!

yo im not at that stage yet but I think you should pick economics because coding jobs are slowly leaving the market due to ai although there may be development in ai coding its unlikely but up to. Which one do u enjoy more cause economics goes well with your subject choices but computer science could add variety.btw for a level do u have to take science

Thats not a reason to not do compsci, if you enjoy compsci then do it, and anyway you dont need compsci A level for it at degree level, because not that many schools offer it. Not picking an A level because of AI is not a good decision in my opinion, there is always going to be a demand for software engineers/coders and we have no idea what the job market will looke like in ten years. Maybe analyst/trader jobs will all be gone from banks and hedge funds, and suddenly economics is not a good choice. We don't know what it will look like, the best thing you can do is just pick the one you like the most, and at the end of the day it doesn't really matter because you can still do compsci if you chose econ and still do econ if you chose compsci.

I want to do Maths, Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Software) or Computer Science. However I am unsure if I get a Grade 7 at GCSE level if I should still pursue it further.

Well I'd do computer science then - it'll help you more and it sounds you are more interested in it. If your school lets you then absolutely take it for A level. However, if you think you won't be able to handle compsci GCSE, then doing it at degree level might not be the best idea. Either way I'm sure GCSE compsci is different to degree level, and you absolutely don't need it at A level to take it at uni

For your subject combination, computer science will generally overlap more, and "fit in" better with the others. Before you choose, make sure you research well into economics A level, It's lots of essay writing and analysis. The strength of economics is that it will leave you with more open choices for uni if you change your mind down the line, so you won't have a so few degrees to choose from. However just note some (minority) unis will prefer computer science A level if ur doing a compsci degree, although it shouldn't make much of a differece at all, but just make sure u have a look at the entry requirements of the unis ur going for. A grade 7 isnt really indicative of anything and doesnt mean you will necessarily do good or bad in the A level. Id say pick whatever you think you'll enjoy most, and remember you can always drop or switch subjects

Well I don't think so, it's not offered at all sixth forms (not at mine for example), so unis aren't really allowed to prefer it I don't think

If your 6th form doesnt offer it then thats different, however some unis do prefer it. For example, in University of Newcastles entry requirements for Computer Science Bsc, they have writte "We are committed to encouraging the adoption of A level Computing. Students applying with an A level in Computing will receive favourable consideration."
