I need to drop one of my A-level subjects, which one?

I know its not for anyine else to decide but myself but I need an outsiders perspective. I want to go to Cambridge for the Design course and I need an A* in maths. I'm doing Maths, Further maths, art, chemistry and history of art (that is online for 2.5hrs on a saturday). So I have been strugging to keep up, obviously, and I never realised that I could drop stuff out and it would make my life easier but now that I've committed to all of them I don't know what to drop. I need advice as I have written a pros and cons list for each thing that I can drop: History of Art, further maths and EPQ. I haven't mentioned the EPQ because I know its crazy that I want to do more but I was thinking I needed a supercurricular activity that involved doing experience which an EPQ is great at and I know I will do well because I did the HPQ (GCSE version 2,000 words instead).
I know that if I carry on with further maths it'll be difficult but I think it'd be fun and I don't need an excellent grade in it (however my schools only doing mech1&2 or mech1&decisions1 bec not enought people wanted to do stats [I wanted to do it :frown:] so it might be a good factor to leave it). I like art history too but I only liked the first year topics so I could potentially quit after doing the mocks (and the results will help me see if im good at it). It's also the fact that I could always just write my own essays by myself (going on zoom for that long is really scary and I don't like having my heart racing every saturday morning from 10-12.30). I think I've only said the bad things but I'm not sure if I should drop all of them or just 1 or 2?? I'm so greatful that I have these opportunities but I think its time to let go of some of them and the pros and cons list wasn't helpful because it wasn't a detailed explanation but just points (atp I'm asking an essay about this out of myself lol) and not to mention that I couldn't link points together like taking into account my core subjects like Art, chem and maths... that I still need to make time for (especially chem bec there so much I have to fit it all in) Thankfully I got a scholarship for uplearn so I shouldn't worry to much but still I need time.
If anyones read all of this and made it this far, congrats because I don't think I have the patience anymore. I tried speaking to teachers and asking them but they all gave different resposes (my fav teachers said to keep FM however they didn't know about history of art or EPQ so....)
I feel like I need to book a consultation with a professional now but sorry guys if you feel like I'm spreading my stress onto u bec I probs am
Pls help thank u

Please keep FM, especially if you are applying to cambridge, their Design course sounds STEM heavy so its probably an advantage to be really secure in maths. EPQ itself means nothing to Cambridge and if you have other passions to write about in your personal statement you won't need it and it will save you research and writing/editing time. History of Art sounds essay based as well so if you dropped that as well you'd really be able to concentrate on the maths, FM and chemistry whilst using the extra time for your art which is pretty time intensive. 4 A levels is still a lot but will be more manageable. My son dropped from 4 to 3 (3 STEM and Geography dropped Geog)in year 12 and it made a huge difference to him pressure-wise. My neighbour dropped from 4 to 3 in Year 13 she was doing Art, maths, physics A level and some sort of drama course (BTEC maybe?) and needed more time so dropped drama in the Dec even though she had nearly completed all the coursework as she needed the time for her Art A level and said she wished she'd done it sooner (studying Architecture now) Both of the above applied to Cambridge, neither had FM and neither got an offer but both received offers from UCL, Durham, Bath and other top Uni's so it wasn't that they weren't good enough, its more the other Cambridge applicants just had the competitive edge (ie FM for their STEM heavy courses and perhaps having 4 A levels helped yoo)You must be bright to be trying to do 6 in the first place so dropping to 4 sounds like a good way to go for you. Good luck.

Oh my gosh thank you for reading this!! I was so stuck and was worried no one would answer in time and you know what I feel like this response was what I needed as EPQ does sound nice but I don't need it and History of art is good but also not necesary. It sounds stupid when I repeat it to myself because I was just going in a loop in my head thank you for clearing it out!! Thank you again!!

Focusing in on what really supports your objective of a place on the Design course at Cambridge is what you'll need to do when you write your personal statement as well. Glad I could help. Good luck

Just as a nice update if you wanted to read it: I got offered an interview from Cambridge!!! So right now I'm focusing on practicing talking about my subjects... 🙂

Fantastic! So pleased to hear this, thanks for the update and good luck with the interview! I think Trinity Hall you tube channel did some great videos about interviews which might be worth checking out

Get rid of chem. Honestly it takes so much effort because the grade boundaries are always so high, definitely worth locking in on the other subjects! Best of luck with your application and take care!

Well done - have you managed to do the Stats FMaths option? Why can't you study these whilst the others study mech/decision? We offer all the modules even if it means I am teaching two different ones in a lesson.
You can try to self-study the stats using online resources with your teacher's support ...

So I ended up going with art, chem, maths and further maths(mech1 & D1). Because my school is quite rural and the decision to teach stats in FM is their decision so generally I think teachers didn't want to teach it because there were only 7/8 of us who wanted to do it. But I have had a look since the textbooks are all accessible in my school and its quite nice.
