Mature Students at the University of Sunderland

Hi

I'm a mature student at the University of Sunderland. I returned to learning when I was 46 and I'm still here at nearly 52! I did an undergrad, a masters, and now a PhD

Do you have any questions about navigating uni as a mature student? hit me up, I have a wealth of experience so I may be able to help
Fantastic, thank you for sharing Daniel.

We have had a number of mature students on the site over the years. I remember one who was studying in her late 70s. Marvellous

I think Sunderland's record was a fine art student who was 87 - you're never too old!

Hi Daniel, Congrats on the achievements. I was wondering how Sunderland is assessing its students? txs

as in academically? it depends on the course tbh - exams are getting phased out apart from in subjects where they are specifically needed, like medical courses and accredited courses where exams are a compulsory element. For undergrad, you're probably looking at 1 or 2 written pieces per unit with a pass at 40%, and grade boundaries around 60% and 70%. Creative courses are different obviously, as there will be a level of assessment of created works.

Hi Daniel, Do you have an idea when the University of Sunderland London campus will starting issuing CAS letters for the January 2026 intake

I did but I haven’t gotten a response for days now from them, waiting on my CAS letter for January intake, is it too early for schools to issue now?

Hi Daniel! Thank you for offering your wealth of knowledge 🙂 I'm applying as an international and independent student. Do you have any advice on what to include in the application a mature student? I'm in my late 30's.

International

Usually it's between 3 and 6 months before the start of your course, but remember the uni will be sorting out September and October starts currently, and they are larger intakes, so be patient
