hi!
i've got york as my insurance too and checking the site that you book accommodations on, there's a page in the application which asks if you have any specific medical/etc requirements for your room, and within that, you can select that you need an ensuite so you should be guaranteed it once filling that out yes

so have you already applied for accommodation?
if you haven't, then just make sure to fill that in and they should accommodate your needs for an ensuite
if you have already applied/missed that section, it's really easy to edit the application and add those details in & change/update it however many times you want

looking at it now i can also see that they ask for you to complete a 'supporting medical evidence' form (it doesn't say it's necessary for the application, but is linked on the page if you need to fill it in, it needs a medical professional to help)

Hi there,

If you have selected the University of York as your insurance choice through UCAS, you are not guaranteed to be allocated accommodation which is owned, managed or approved by the University. However, you can still apply for University accommodation until 31 July 2025. Your accommodation application will be considered once all guaranteed students have been offered accommodation. You can read more about our accommodation guarantee on our website.

In short, if you end up coming to York as your insurance choice, you probably won't be allocated your top choice of accommodation. However, if you need an ensuite due to medical reasons, I'd recommend getting in touch with our accommodation team to discuss your options, they'll be better placed to advise you than me. Here are their contact details:

Telephone: +44 (0)1904 322165

I'm really sorry that this probably wasn't the answer you were hoping for, but I hope this information helps you nonetheless. Best of luck in your exams - Hannah 😀
