BTECS

Hello, My daughter wanted to take Physical Education as a third Alevel but it's only offered as a BTEC. She wants to study ecology or biology. Do some of the top universities look less favourably at BTECs and would she be better taking 3 A levels instead?

Its usually okay with one BTEC alongside 2 A levels - but she needs to check the entry requirements for the specific courses you wants to do on each Uni website, and if it isn't clear if this qualification combination is okay, email/phone the Uni and check. Just be aware of potential cross-over in subjects - ie. some Unis will not accept PE alongside Biology for instance.

Hi there,
That’s a great question! - when it comes to A-levels vs BTECs, it really does depend on the specific university and course. Some universities, especially more competitive ones, prefer applicants to have three A-levels (especially science based for those type of courses you were describing), while others may accept a combination of A-levels and BTEC.

I’d definitely recommend checking the entry requirements for each course your daughter is considering on the universities’ websites. Please do check each seperate unis requirements for this as they may differ between institutions even for the same course!! - If it’s unclear most unis have an admissions email or contact form where you can ask them directly- they’re usually very helpful and used to these kinds of queries. This way she can make the most educated decision on whether or not that combination works well with her goals! (:

Hope this helps, wishing her good luck with the application process!! 📚️
