Chester university nursing placement allocation

Hi I have been accepted onto the nursing course at Chester university riverside. I am just looking for some advice on placements. I live in mid Shropshire but will be travelling into Chester for theory modules. Will my placements also be in Chester or am I more likely to get Shrewsbury and RJAH in gobowen? Many thanks for your replies in advance

Hi @Chizsinz as far as I'm aware work placements are usually done through your university. They tend to be the local hospital near your university who they are linked too and for data protection purposes you don't usually work at the hospital close to where you live if you live really close to a hospital so likely Chester.

Universities have links with their closest hospitals and community areas.
I did my nursing degree at Chester, and mentor a lot of Chester students. You won't get sent to Shrewsbury, and they only very, very occasionally send students to RJAH. Seeing as you're based actually in Chester for theory, your placements will be predominantly at Chester hospital, Chester Nuffield, and with community services in Chester and the surrounding towns/villages. Students based at the Warrington campus get placements in that area, and those at the Birkenhead campus get placements on the Wirral. Some students get sent to Crewe on placement.

I have lived in Chester since long before I started my nursing degree at University of Chester, and had every single one of my placements..... in Chester, seeing as that's their placement catchment zone.

Chester do have access to placements in the Shrewsbury /Shropshire area. As a student who lives closer to those clinical areas you could request placements there.

Hi @Chizsinz

Congratulations on your offer 😀

You will receive placement details once you begin in September. Our Nursing department do try to allocate placements based on your term-time address, although it's worth noting that students can be asked to travel anywhere up to 1hr 30mins for a placement.

Apologies that this doesn't give you firmer information now, however placements are organised closer to the time in order to ensure parity for all students.

Best wishes,
Becky
