Hi,
This is how everything started. Since April, I’ve been given different information, and it’s left me feeling humiliated and small. The error began with the school administrator, who provided conflicting details. I was asked if I was ready to return in November, to which I confirmed, and I attended the induction and the following week. However, all the lecturers told me my name wasn’t on the list. I emailed multiple times with no response, and I automatically received maintenance. So, I assumed everything had been sorted.
When I reached out to Alex from Welfare, he told me the issue was related to March. The maintenance funds were critical, as I don’t have family in Manchester, and prior to that, I lost my home and everything in it. While in Nigeria, I also fell into debt because medical treatment isn’t free there. I was just trying to find some balance.
Then, in March, I was told it would be sorted by April. In May, QAHE informed me that they had contacted SFE, but it only worsened the situation. SFE claimed I wasn’t entitled to tuition or maintenance and that they would only review the matter if I provided evidence of compelling personal reasons, which I did. They reinstated my tuition but didn’t approve the maintenance. SFE said they would not release the maintenance unless the university confirmed my attendance in November.
I feel utterly humiliated and like I’m being treated as a beggar. The entire issue stemmed from poor communication within the admin system, and it’s incredibly frustrating. I had no reason to inform QAHE of how I used the maintenance funds, as I thought it was normal. I never imagined the third payment would be canceled. Now, I’m being punished for an error that wasn’t mine.
