Go to the university with a settled status

Hello,
I want to start a master's program in September at London Metropolitan University. I have been living in the UK for eight years and have settled status. The university has informed me that I need to take the IELTS exam to gain admission. Is it necessary to pass this exam if I am already a resident in the UK?

In most cases if they’ve review your qualifications and education history and added an English condition anyway, yes, it will be required.

When did you graduate from undergrad? (I’m assuming it was in the UK)

I studied in Spain. I don't understand how a person who has studied here is exempt from taking the exam and I, who have been working here for 8 years, have to take it. It doesn't make sense. I work in the UK and obviously I speak English.

Upper intermediate level

Okay, I’m guessing this is a B2 level qualification although the actual award title isn’t clear.

Was it listed on your application and have you contacted them to confirm that they saw it but don’t accept it?

Most Unis have a list of accepted English qualifications on their website. This is for everyone, including native language speakers.
Hi, first of all we're thrilled to hear you're wanting to study an MA with us! 🥳

The English language requirements apply to all applicants that are not of majority English speaking nationality as defined by the UK Home Office, or those who do not possess a degree awarded, studied and conferred in a majority English speaking country.

Applicants of majority English speaking nationality who do not require a SELT to confirm their competency in the English language will still be asked to provide a UK GCSE English language equivalent qualification.

You can find more information about the requirements on our website we hope this helps!
