Uni of Manchester mechanical engineering

So I’ve just been accepted into UOM, how are the engineering facilities, student life, general standards in UOM? Im also hoping to commute there instead of move out, I’m from Sheffield so would that be a wise decision. Moving out is a complete no for me, though I think banks offer rail cards now, though it’s over an hours journey to the uni

Congratulations.

Manchester is a very good uni, very strong jn engineering. In terms of facilities etc it is probably above the average of RG unis. Manchester is a big city and it is nothing to worry about social life.

Daily commuting from Sheffield is not advisable, though not strictly impossible. The campus is about 30 minute walk from the rail station. So it would be 3 hours 2-way, not to mention your home to Sheffield trip time. You might end up over 4 hours every school day.

Think very seriously of letting it go if moving out is strictly impossible. Good luck.

I don’t think I would mind that since I think it would build a routine for me, to not slack if it makes sense. Plus I’m hoping to study while travelling to the uni and 30 mins walk is a bit off putting but you’ll have to walk regardless of if ur in the city or not. Sadly moving out is just a straight no so with this opportunity I just want to make the most out of it
