Borderline Classification

My overall grade is 58.9 weighted average. This means my grade will be considered for being promoted however I have looked at the regulations for this. The conditions state that 8 out of 16 units between 2nd and 3rd Year must be above a 2:1. I narrowly miss out on this as 7.5 of my units are at a 2:1 standard I don’t know what to do this is a very disappointing result and I feel as though I am a near miss on the system.

All universities draw lines for classification of degrees. Some people fall just the wrong side of those lines.

However, does your university permit the assessment board some leeway?

The assessment board indeed make the final decision. I agree though I think I have fallen just the wrong side. My only chance of getting a 2:1 depends entirely on the discretion of the board. I’m just wondering if there is anything I can do in this time such as applying for an appeal on the basis of mental health.

Trying to game the system?

I don’t know what you mean. I’m just trying to get a fair consideration based on all of the circumstances considered and if mental health is another factor then I guess it is worth a shot.

That depends on the nature of any mental health issues and the evidence for them.

My university did this thing called a referred pass where your degree is safe so in your case a 2:2 but you will be invited for an optional resit of an exam if you pass said resit you will get the higher grade 2:1 in your case.

What if the person had a serious case of depression and anxiety impairing them from attending classes consistently. What if this evidence was supported with a note from a therapist. do u think that would help

Yes, if the therapist was accredited and the evidence was submitted before exams, assessment etc.

What if it was submitted after receiving the results on the basis of an academic appeal

I'd have two equally cynical views.

One would be that the submission wouldn't be genuine, but merely an attempt to get an upgraded classification.

The other would be that the university assessment board would want as many students as possible to get a 2.1 or first, and therefore grant the appeal.
