SFE funding for masters

Hey, so I'm currently studying for a degree in health and social care fully covered by SFE. I've tried to find information online about whether or not SFE will fully fund a masters in mental health science but I haven't had any luck.

Does anyone know what my options are? I've only just finished year one of a full-time 3 year degree so I won't be applying for a masters just yet but I want to plan ahead. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi @MrsL92, so for a masters, SFE will only give you one payment instead of paying your tuition fees and a maintence loan like they do at undergrad. You can use that payment however you'd like and you can find out the eligibility criteria here.

If you want to go straight into a masters from undergrad I would definitely start saving up. I worked part-time to find mine and because I stayed at the same uni I got a bit of a discount, which means I had some loan left over to pay my bills. It's not cheap, but there might be some scholarships you can apply for also.

Hope that helps? 😃

Hey!

Yes, SFE does offer a Postgraduate Master’s Loan to help with tuition fees and living costs for eligible master’s degrees, including in areas like mental health science. If you apply in the future, you could be eligible for a loan of up to £12,471 (this was the amount for this academic year) to help cover your master's course.

They'll be paid directly into your bank account in 3 equal instalments - September, January & April - and it is up to you to pay your fees, so essentially it's up to you what you do with the money

My course was £10,195 so I had some money to spare when I got my loan 🙂

Hope that helps!
