where is everyone going?

I am a simple man. Blackfriars had a silly interactive 3d map on the website, put it as my 1st choice and got it 😶*🌫️

We will not mention how I found out about noise issues there, after.

Not sure if you're talking to me, buuuut... for both Blackfriar and Kelvgate, I've seen reviews complaining about loud undergrads and even parties. Safe to say they're both social? Something else I forgot to look at before my accommo app 🥲 I'm the opposite, I'd prefer less social accommodation lol

Kelvgate is only 15 minutes walk away... so idk what you mean by that last part. It's also in a very student-y area, nightlife n' all. Lacking in common areas from what I read, though

Either SR yoinked my entire reply or it's just not showing up on my screen... mb if I replied twice.

Mmmmm. Yeah. Fully aware Blackfriars is a fair treck from the uni. Double-edged sword when you think about it, though— An hour walk to classes, but you are practically right next to the city centre. Makes carrying home groceries and shopping easier (plus going out when we talk in terms of socializing, again) I'm quite the walker but I am weak af, so a situation like that is great. That's how I looked at it anyways.

The google kelvgate images is exactly why it was a low option for me... The images are 7+ years ago, so its sensible to assume the website images are more accurate... didn't wanna risk it, anyhow (because wtf were those prison-esque bedframes ?!) When accommo websites say the images aren't like reality, it usually is refering to the size and shape of the rooms and the furniture arrangement varying, not the furniture itself iykwim? When you look at blackfriars website vs google map images, the furniture is all the same but what I mentioned above is different. I also noticed that both the classic ensuite and premium ensuite on the 3d map they have is the exact same room they just took the rug off the floor in one... 👀

If you really wanna force yourself to socialize, give Murano Flats a shot. Shared bathrooms and you share a flat with up to 12 people 😀 PERSONALLY. I think the prospect is absolutrly terrifying. Plus, they're ugly. In my humble opinion.

Will say though, looking at websites and reviews I'd gander Blackfriars is more social.

Hi All,

Have a look at our Accommodation thread, which is pinned at the top of our page.

There's loads of great information on accommodation with students sharing their experiences!

where is everyone going?

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is still relevant but I hope it helps future students! I stayed at Queen Margaret Residences during my first year at UofG and I had a lovely experience. I was adamant about staying in ensuite rooms when I first moved away from home so I loved that QM had smaller flats of 5 where each of us had our own bathrooms/bedrooms and a shared kitchen area. The cons of this was we only seemed to catch each other while we were cooking but the rooms were very spacious. The common space downstairs by the reception was well packed with board games, table tennis and table football amongst other things. In terms of a social life, I think there was a good balance of flat parties and quiet during exam time. Murano was close enough for students to easily go over for a more vibrant social life if things were quieter on our end. The staff and security were very friendly and helpful during the entirety of the stay. I also got the corner room which was very spacious (almost felt like I had too much space to myself). The only other con I can think of was that the nearest supermarket was a big tesco which was a fair bit of a walk away since QM was in a neighbourhood off the botanic gardens.

I hope this helps
