Am I going to be stuck doing something im not sure i want?

Hello,
I was really interested in aerospace engineering and I applied to University of Birmingham for it, and now I realize I think I want to do mechanical engineering more at Warwick which is way closer to me than Birmingham ( I have to commute) , but I didn't even apply to Warwick at all so now i don't know did I already make a mistake?

Hi @Simsimsoo

It can be difficult to make the final decision on what you want to study, so having doubts or changing your mind is completely understandable.

You could look into using UCAS Extra to apply to Warwick. Here is the UCAS page explaining what you would need to do and how Extra works - https://www.ucas.com/applying/after-you-apply/types-undergraduate-offers/extra-choices

If you're still undecided about either uni, you can always look at wider student life, accommodation and other aspects the unis offer as well as your course, which can help you compare your options and hopefully one will stand out the most.

Hope this helps. 🙂

So pragmatically what you describing is more optimising your university experience rather than choosing between fundamentally divergent options.
Aerospace is largely a specialism of mechanical engineering, and at university the key thing is building an understanding of the theory, however the physics is the same, what might change is the perspective is broader in mechanical.
I would do a couple things:
1) pick up the phone (or email) to Warwick and ask the question, explain why you have changed slightly and if they can help advise if there is still space available (and if they can help move, @Admit-One , any chance you can offer an opinion.. too late to withdraw and use UCAS extra? Or would they need to wait for clearing)

2) call Birmingham and ask if they can move you from Aerospace to mechanical, should be a fairly straightforward yes/no

in general i wouldn’t overthink it, you are studying broadly the same subject, in the same area of the country, at similar standard universities within engineering.
Extra is running until the 4th July, so still plenty of time. As above, first port of call is checking with Warwick whether the course is still open.

As you need to decline all existing offers to use Extra, just have a good think before you commit to it.
