Curious About MRes in Pharmacy at UEA?

Hi everyone! I'm considering applying for the MRes in Pharmacy at the University of East Anglia and would love to hear from anyone who's currently studying there or has completed the program. What are the entry requirements like, and how did you find the course overall? Also, any insights into student life and job opportunities in Norwich would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi @Seyishey,

I'm going to ask our UEA team about things like entry requirements, etc... But in the meantime, I've studied at UEA for 5 years now and really enjoy it!

In terms of student life, UEA and Norwich in general is a really bustling, vibrant place to live. Everything you need is on campus like a shop, cafes and laundrettes but the city is only a bus ride away which has popular shops and restaurants as well as independent little places that are really nice to go and study in or meet friends for a night out. UEA's got tonnes of clubs and societies you can join and they put on a fresher's fair at the start of term where you can trial certain sports and stuff so it's definitely worth checking out.

I've found job opportunities really easy. Some schools run internships over the summer, or you can get Student Ambassador jobs like working Open Days and events which is useful if you don't want to commit to set shift work. Again, some schools will also have other jobs available like running student publications. There are also jobs in the campus bar or shop, or you can go off campus to work like at Bella Italia or other places in the city. Because it's quite a youthful city full of uni students, people are always hiring.

In terms of jobs beyond university, Careers Central put on really good grad fair and job fair events with local businesses. I have a few interviews lined up from these. Careers Central also do a really good job of supporting you with your CV, interview practice... Anything you need! They're really good at helping you job hunt.

I hope that answers some of your questions? Let me know if not, and hopefully I'll get back soon with some more info on the MRes 😊

Here we go! This is from the admissions team:

The Master’s by Research is a type of postgraduate research degree that can either be undertaken as an MA by Research ‘MA (Res)’, an MSc by Research ‘MSc (Res)’ or an LLM by Research ‘LLM (Res)’. This is not the same as an MRes, which is a postgraduate taught Master’s degree (Master of Research) typically including at UEA 80 credits of taught modules and a 100-credit dissertation. This course is managed by admissions team.

Master’s by Research degrees place emphasis on research and do not include taught modules or learning through seminars and lectures. Instead, student will focus on their chosen research area and give themselves experience of what research life is like.Typically a Master’s by Research degree lasts two years. In year one they will undertake their research and in year two they will go into the writing-up phase before submitting their thesis.

Please note that due to unprecedented demand, international applications are currently closed for this course.
We are still accepting applications from UK students.

It is critical to identify a prospective supervisor before applying.

The minimum requirement is 2:2 in a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study.
