English GCSE paper

Hello, I wanted to ask if I didn’t do well in paper 1 for English language GCSE is there a chance that I can still get a 4? I only have a week left for paper 2 and I still haven’t revised for it. I’m scared I need to pass this does anyone have advise? I’ve been retaking English this is like my 3rd try I need a 4 atleast but in my mocks I’ve got a grade 5 but that was because I took the mock exam in the classroom. I struggle so much with time management to the point I didn’t do well in my paper 1.

it’s definitely possible! i would recommend doing some past papers in the next few days to help with your time management  good luck!!

Definitely. Use Mr Salles, try to watch as many of his paper 2 english language videos as much as you can. He's pretty entertaining imo, and I think with him (and enough concentration) it'll be no problem. Also for the time management, maybe do one question at a time in 10 minute bursts so that you don't get too bogged up/overwhelmed. Good luck!

It is 100% possible!! Don't give up, keep pushing yourself and I'm sure you'll be able to. I recommend Mr Salles and also Mr Everything English - Mr EE is doing a livestream on youtube for paper 2 at 7pm on Thursday (Youtube) so that might be helpful to you as well!!
Good luck, please ask if you have any questions

Thank you !! I’m just scared and stressed because I haven’t done anything for revision and I only have 2 days left and I’m not sure if I can get a pass 😞I might need to do some overnight revision- I need to go through the content and how to answer questions I’m so stuck 😞😞

I'm sure you'll be able to do it - I wouldn't recommend overnight revision though, it will drain your brain and possibly make you feel like a zombie on the day. My advice would be to get enough sleep on each of the nights until the exam, and grind in the day with breaks.

As well as using the livestream if you want to, doing some practice questions and getting tilf.io to mark them can be really really useful as it gives such detailed feedback and marks.

For general advice, Mr EE has a bunch of videos about how to answer the questions including structures and how to answer the questions on the YT channel, as well as Mr Salles and the lightuphub - any of these will be great for revision so take your pick!

There's so many resources out there for you - but make sure that you try and stay as healthy and well-rested as possible (and take care of yourself) so that you're able to use them properly and perform well on the day. I believe in you - the fact that you're coming on here and asking for help shows that you care about it, and that's the first step to succeeding!! Good luck )

Omg thank you so much!! 🤍 May god bless you all immensely with abundant rewards !! Ameen 🫶🏼 ( and yes I will try not to do overnights because I think it’s because I did that for my other paper and that’s why I didn’t perform well in it). Also I wont be able to revise English for the exam tomorrow due to mosque 5-8 but hopefully I will ask my teacher if I can revise in free periods !) please pray for me guys your supplication is well needed 🤍.
I have a maths exam tomorrow aswell 😞 but it’s okay ! Whatever happens it’s in gods permission.
If I make a quick timetable would you let me know if it’s okay? :
11:30-12:45~learn content for 3 and 4 with timings working on each question for 20 or 10 mins using notes to help me answer the question with structure.
Break
1:30-2:40~learn Q5 content and practise with exam paper style question using my notes. (Should I time myself in this part or no? When using my notes to answer the question?)
Then break
And hopefully I revise for my mosque exam
And then when I come back from mosque I will probably take a rest for abit and then revise some langauge devices and vocabulary- read a book- and sleep before 11.
Then on Thursday I will do a past paper with strict timings. ( I have the whole day free 🤍) and I will remark my paper to see what’s wrong ! And I’ll ask questions aswell you all are very helpful thank you!!

Hiya
My name's Rukky and I'll be more than willing to give you a last minute tutor for english paper 2
I was literally at a grade 4/6 before the exam and I eventually got a 9 thanks to Mr Everything English, so even I you don't feel comfortable with me tutoring you I'd advice you to watch his lives and past videos where he breaks down each questions and how to answer them using the mark scheme! Hello thank you ! For this opportunity 🤍 and I’ll take this as a yes and please let me know soon about the information! Will you be available on Thursday?? Because I think on Wednesday I will go through questions myself so I have a better understanding and I will do the questions myself and then if it’s possible for you to tutor me on Thursday?? Obviously with timings that you’re comfortable with?.

No problem!

This timetable sounds pretty good - I would just add to get the practice questions marked by tilf.io or a teacher too before doing the full practice if you can so you can see where to improve!
I would say yes to timing yourself for Q5 even when you use your notes and all the questions that you do - if you struggle with timing, maybe start with slightly over the time and then decreasing it until you get to the timing you want to have. Having timing down is really important for the actual GCSE and will make you feel more confident when it comes to actually doing it. Mr EE goes over ideal timings for the whole paper (including time set aside for planning) so you could use that to guide you.

Good luck with your revision, wishing you all the best for your mosque exam and English - you'll do great!
