They are both good academic unis and getting a good grade in your degree will be more important than which of these unis you go to. Also, there is no guarantee that Nottingham will be in clearing for law.

my thing is UoY has a low BME % and i’m not sure whether i’ll see many like myself if i go in september. I know UoN to be a lot more diverse and can be a more comfortable fit for me. However if Yorks reputation to big firms is better than nottingham then that’d be also something to consider

To speak bluntly, Nottingham is unlikely have places available in clearing for their LLB, due to the nature of competition in law courses.
This is no problem however, given you hold an offer from York. Both place well in trainees at Magic Circle and US firms in London, which are usually the two ‘big firm’ types in the UK. In this regard of career prospects, both will likely offer the same benefits, provided you achieve the grades at University.
I’m aware of your comment of the low BME% at York, although there will almost certainly be more than expected when you arrive, alongside a myriad of opportunities to connect with a diverse range of people. I would discourage you from allowing a percentage to deter you from choosing York, as the career prospects are a priority for you, and they will be strong with a solid LLB from York.

Hi there,
At York, we are working improve the equality of opportunity for under-represented student groups at all stages of a student's journey including access to York, a student's experience of study when they are here and also their progression from university. Our Access and Participation plan for 2025/6 - 2028/9 sets out our support and activities to support students across this student journey. Knowing which university to go to can feel like a big decision and making sure you feel a sense of belonging is also part of that decision.
We work with our current students to co-create activities like our Black Access and Next Step York programmes which help students make informed decisions.
To hear from current students on their perceptions of being at York we recommend our Black Access Instagram and podcasts as well as this video from Fatima. We've also got a Students Union who host a range of societies which help give you an idea of some of the communities that exist at York.
In terms of career prospects, we embed this into the course: our pioneering Careers and development programme will help to ensure you are ready to pursue your chosen career path. Created through collaboration with leading local, national and international firms and key vocational providers, the programme includes professional skills workshops, personal development, mentoring schemes and link days.
We also have a dedicated full-time Employability Tutor, who can give you advice on a wide range of matters, from CV and assessment centre techniques to general career planning.
We have established a wide range of professional links and partnering arrangements. Through these you benefit from 'real world' lawyers as part of the teaching team and gain access to practical, work-based learning opportunities that can help you to prepare for your career.

The number of courses that will be on clearing at University of Nottingham vary year-on-year depending on how many places remain vacant. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that there will be places available for Law. However, once clearing opens, I would look into it in case there are spaces available.

Many large law firms no longer recruit on the basis of university reputation. Many recruit university-blind.
