Clearing & defer entry 2026

Will I be able to use Clearing if I’ve accepted a deferred place but decided I want to go somewhere else?
You won’t be able to apply through Clearing using your deferred application. You’ll have to decline your deferred place and then complete a new application.
Would i be correct in thinking that if you decline a deferred 2026 place in Aug via UCAS hub if not holding any offer you can go then into clearing and in clearing you can contact universities to ask if they have places on a course where they would be willing to make an offer of a 2026 deferred place

Clearing is to fill places on courses starting this year only.

If you want to apply for somewhere different to start in 2026, you would need to cancel your current UCAS application completely and reapply with 5 new choices in the autumn.

Hi @2deepdive,

Thank you for your message 😊

If you've accepted a deferred place but later decide you'd prefer to go somewhere else, you can still use Clearing. However, there are a few key things to keep in mind:

You’ll need to decline your deferred offer via your UCAS Hub.

Once you’ve done that, and as long as you’re not holding any other offers, you’ll become eligible for Clearing.

During Clearing, you can contact universities to ask if they have places available. Most Clearing offers are for immediate entry (2025), but some universities may be willing to consider a deferred place for 2026. This will depend with each university, so it’s always best to check directly.

I hope that this helps! Please do let us know if you have any further questions 😊

Best wishes,

Clare
