Hii! I’m a year 13 and I do chemistry and honestly it really depends on the person, everyone is different and will be better at certain subjects than others! It also really depends on how you revise and how much time and focus you give to chemistry. Find out for yourself how it goes and if you ever need any help with it or advice on how to revise, resources etc I’d be more than happy to help
One thing I will say is that Year 13 chem is quite a bit harder than year 12 BUT if you have a solid foundation in year 12 knowledge it’s not impossible to get a hang of it the more your practice and the mark schemes for exams are usually quite nice as well  (I do OCR)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!! 💖

Hi @aisosa67,

I chose Chemistry as one of my A-Level subjects, alongside Art, English Literature and Economics. Whilst I would say it was probably the most content-heavy out of all of my subjects, I wasn't studying other STEM A-Levels, which I think made Chemistry a bit more challenging for me than it was for lots of my other primarily STEM-based classmates. However, I did really enjoy the subject and wouldn't change it for another as I found the content (especially the inorganic topics) extremely interesting.

As mentioned above, I'd definitely recommend having a good foundation of GCSE knowledge, especially in regard to organic chemistry. However, if you enjoyed studying GCSE Chemistry, I wouldn't worry too much about studying it at A-Level as well - the material is similar, albeit there's a lot more of it. 🙂

Hope this was helpful and best of luck!

biology and psychology !

It’s not difficult if you go over the content after lessons and try to understand it

Biology does really help with one of the organic units about proteins. For me, I’d say maths is the hardest bit of chemistry, but if you’re good at maths you should be fine (for reference I got a 7 at GCSE maths so not awful but not good). Doing chemistry is also helpful for biology as there is some overlap in biological molecules and practical skills.

Yes it’s hard , but your harder (pause 🧐) what I mean is your a badass . If you need chem for uni do it . If you need chem because you have an interest do it . If you need chem to boost your confidence and be like “yah I do a level chem 😉” do it . However it will not be easy especially if you do other subjects like bio or physics or maths . But it’s about you , need to love it to live it if your doing it out of interest bc you’ll have nothing to motivate you like needing it for university. Heck I even know ppl who need it for uni but gave up . It’s all individualised . I’m in year 13 doing chem for my uni choice and what advice I could give you if your textbook is your bestie 😗. So if you teacher gives you a textbook use that shiii 😍 like wtf . Do textbook questions , and if you can do them right ask teacher then re do textbook questions and then past papers . Chem ain’t easy I had to work hard for my predicted grades and the grades I hope to get 😍🤞🏽. So consistence . And in y12 didn’t care but once year 13 hits you it’s a different kind of pain to catch up . Even if you don’t plan going to uni or don’t need it for your course you still have an ego . So don’t let it be crushed 🙃
