Trainee Legal Adviser - HMCTs

Hi,
I graduated about 10 months ago with my Degree, and I have landed an interview as a trainee legal adviser. My current roles since Uni, have not been directly legal related, and I feel like I need to revise/brush up my knowledge before my interview as there is a legal based scenario question, but honestly I have no idea where to start. I never did Family Law so I have no material to read back on for this.

Does anyone have advice of what the interview may entail, and what I should expect. Am I allowed to research answers on my computer during the interview, or is it like a role play? In which, I have not actually worked in a Court Room, so I feel useless😭

Hi,

The way it worked last year was that they sent out specific bits of the civil procedure rules and sections of the Children’s Act to review and then the legal scenario was focused on that. The way it worked in the interview was two separate bits, one more average interview questions on experience and strengths etc and then the legal scenario. To prep for the strength questions have a look at the civil service recruitment guides about how they define the strengths / behaviors associated with the role.

With the scenario you act as legal adviser and they provide you details of the mock case first and then ask questions as if they were magistrates asking for advise.

Could be different this year but I imagine it will be similar 🤷*♂️
