A Level - OCR Film Studies

Hiya,
I am currently doing my a-levels. I was hoping people would be able to help me out with how to write introductions for 35 markers. But, for OCR a level Film studies. There is hardly anything online i can find for this subject and specifically this Exam board, there is also hardly any online student examples. I was hoping someone could help me out. I know introductions arenโ€™t the most important but when having to talk about multiple films in one 35 marker, i never know how to start the essay. Any tips would be so helpful, thank yo!

As someone who is currently sitting exams for Film Studies (Paper 2 tmrw), I understand the struggle.

Regardless of what paper you do, you want to start off the introduction with a introspection into the question, and whether you agree with the question or not.

You then go into how the film(s) link to this specific idea i.e. the digital production of both Ex Machina + Guardians of the Galaxy reflects its context of its production.

You would then analyse how this is shown within the film through examples and potentially linking it to specific microelements or ideas such as genre or aesthetics of the film.

Finally, you would link the introduction to the social, political and historical context of the environment the film was made in, or the auteurs reasoning for creative and directive decisions (this is mostly in Paper 1 Section B + Paper 2 Section A/B).

My general tip for writing an introduction for a 35 marker is that you should ideally write maximum 5 lines - remember that you have a limited time for questions (40 min each) and writing a long introduction can screw up timings for your paragraphs. I hope this helped and my advice didn't sound too vague!
