which UK uni should I choose for a Master’s in fashion/luxury/PR?

Hi! I’m an international student trying to choose a UK uni for my Master’s in areas like fashion marketing, luxury brand management, and PR/advertising, and I’m honestly stuck.

I’ve got offers from:

Nottingham Trent

Oxford Brookes

Regent’s University London

Goldsmiths

Northumbria (London campus)

I’m trying to figure out which one is the best overall in terms of:

Employability + career support (especially in fashion/luxury/branding)

Internships / industry links

Social life + overall vibe

And of course… is it actually worth the money as an international student?

If you’ve been to any of these or know someone who has, I’d really appreciate your honest thoughts good, bad, anything. Thanks!!

Hello!

Wow your courses sound so exciting! Well done for receiving offers from so many universities, that is so positive for you, although it gives you plenty of choice which makes the decision making process harder I'm sure.

Although I'm not a current student at any of your choices and nor have I studied at the universities previously, I've got some general suggestions that might help maybe?

Firstly, have you visited any of the universities on an Open Day Event? I appreciate it may not be possible to visit, but often an Open Day can really help you decide where you would like to study. The day gives you an opportunity to see the university in person, you can really get a feeling for the campus, the students studying there and staff working there and overall see if you feel comfortable and at home there, is this somewhere you think you would feel happy and therefore want to study at. Also, during the Open Day, the department staff - so your prospective tutors and lecturers - are available to talk to you to discuss the course content, industry links on offer, and how the university contributes to your overall employability and career development. At the University of Chester Open Days, the student support staff are also available to give advice and answer your questions, so for example, the careers and employability department are represented and would be able to discuss further the career support that the university could provide you with. There are also student led campus tours, and this is a great opportunity to gain a student perspective on life at the university, which would include the social life opportunities.

As well as Open Days, some universities (Chester included) use UniBuddy or a similar sort of university chat with a student facility through their website. Although this is virtual and therefore not face to face, it gives you the chance to speak to a current student in the area that you would like to study, so this could be another way of you finding more information out about your course and the university.

Finally, you could try putting your post onto the forums on the student room devoted to the universities you've had acceptance from as this could generate more responses.

I really hope that this helps, good luck with pursuing your course and your career, it sounds so exciting!

Hi @Ouioui27111,

Thank you for your message ☺️

I completely understand how tough it can be to choose the right university, especially when you’re coming from overseas and making a big investment!

At Oxford Brookes, our Marketing and Brand Management course has a strong focus on employability. The teaching team has close links with companies across a range of industries, which helps shape what and how we teach. Many of our graduates go on to work in roles like brand strategist, marketing consultant, account planner, or communications manager, both in the UK and internationally.

Former students have worked at companies like Amazon, Burberry, Hilton, Lacoste, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft, and Unilever, as well as top agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy, and BBDO. Some graduates even go on to start their own businesses. Additionally, our Careers Service offers lots of support with CVs, mock interviews, and assessment centres.

While Brookes isn’t a fashion-specific institution, the course is designed to help you build a career in branding, luxury, or agency environments. Depending on the programme, there may be options to work on live briefs with real clients, take on consultancy projects, or even do placements. It’s worth looking at the specific modules for the course you’re considering.

Additionally, Oxford is a great city to study in! It’s lively, diverse, and full of history. Brookes students often say it’s a friendly and welcoming place, and the international student community is really active. There’s always something going on, from cafes and live music to green spaces, galleries, and an active student union. While Brookes and the University of Oxford are separate, there’s still a shared student atmosphere across the city.

Oxford also tends to be more affordable than London, especially when it comes to rent and general living costs. Brookes offers a number of scholarships for international students, which can really help.

If you’d like to ask anything specific about the course itself, feel free to reach out to Dr Bjoern Asmussen, our Senior Lecturer in Marketing and the course lead for MSc Marketing & Brand Management and MSc Marketing Communications Management. You can contact him directly here.

I hope that this helps! Best of luck with your decision, and please let us know if you have any questions 🍀

Best wishes,

Clare
