skin picking disorder

Does anyone else really struggle with skin picking around exam/stressful times, its gotten so bad it hurts and bleeds constantly but I can't keep my hands busy with stress toys or wear gloves when I'm studying also I've used bandages but there is certain areas that they just wouldn't cover. It's starting to make my skin look really damaged and I'm worried about infections has anyone got anything to help? I know this is gross and embarrassing lol

Honestly I'm sorry your going through this, its so hard when its your hands because of how much you use them so are onstantly seeing them and remindedof them.I use fingerless gloves and try to make sure I pick the hand I dont write with so covering it with fingerless gloves if possible but with the hot weather I've found the thing that works best for me is thumbholsleeves there like tights material so not the thickest or most protective but can cover the scars and also help take your mind off it by covering (but you shouldnt feel and pressure to hide what hlped you cope.) I just bought some off Amazon but you can get them pretty much anywhere online or maybe DIY with some tights. I put the pen through the thumbhole with my thumb so the pen rest against my skin if that makes sense. Sorry because this might not help if it's your fingers you struggle with but for me it's the back of my hands getting scratched thats the problem. It's not gross or embarrassing dont worry if your worried about infection wash thoroughly with soap and water cover with a fin layer of germolene(or another gentle antiseptic clean) and keep covered until the skin has healed over changing the covering at least every 12 hours. I know it's not easy but if you haven't try telling someone in school they would be able to give you firs aid if needed. Other times simply writing no on my hand helps but it's about having a variety or coping tools at hand. If the urge is to destroy then allow yourself time away from studying to safely scribble or rip paper sort of thing, I hope this helps and good luck with your exams.

Thanks so much so i pick my face neck and back which is why its like really bad because i basically have big red patches everywhere, i have a lot of other mental health issues so my family are constantly on top of these things today we did some plasters and i got a new cream thats a bit oily (kinda put me off picking cos i dont like the texture) i need to stock up on plasters because ive gone through the box but theres still those places that cant be covered that i always go for😅 its nice to hear from someone who struggles with it ive had variations of like low level sh like this hair pulling and things but this is definitely the worst one, ive had it before and it usually stops when im not stressed so hopefully i heal up a bit. i also think its a bit of a movement fixation on top of stress like with smoking or something how people get addicted to the action. again it was rly nice to jst hear from someone with a similar issue im trying to sort it actively because its starting to get very red and stuff i have pretty sensitive skin so it kinda comes out in little scabs/spots that i pick sorry if thats super disgusting to say, thanks for the kind words i hope ur doing ok
