AH Dissertation question

Hi! First ever post on here lol, currently i’m thinking about my advanced higher english dissertation and was wondering if this could be done on songs? I would look at them as poetry rather than a song but i’m unsure if this is allowed. If not, does anyone have any good poets/authors to write on? Thanks!

such an interesting idea, not something i've ever thought about! I think it may not be considered 'literary' enough to do songs, but would check with a teacher. as far as author recommendations, I would think about a theme or genre you want to focus on and go from there! I did 'the book thief' and 'all the lights we cannot see' for mine. Also, I found this on sqa site regarding dissertation that may be helpful:

You might choose one of the following as the basis of a dissertation:
two texts by the same novelist
two texts written by different novelists
a single, substantial text
two texts by the same dramatist
texts written by two or more dramatists
a wide range (perhaps seven or more) of poems by one poet
a narrow range (six or fewer) of poems by one poet
texts written by two or more poets
short stories (three or more)
literary non-fiction

This is very helpful, thank you so much!
I think I might focus on poetry, possibly Silvia Plath, and go from there!
