accommodation help

liverpool is down as my insurance choice, but i havent applied for accommodation yet. because i have left it relatively late, most of the univeristy-owned accommodation is gone, so i looked in the private sector, although it seems that it is hard to cancel private accommodation once it is booked if i get into my firm choice. private accommodation looks to be cheaper and more available, but i don't want to be in a position where i book it, end up going to my firm, and cant cancel it.

what to do from here? i was thinking that it might be worth applying for accom through the uni, and then a few days before results day look for private accom, then if i don't get into my firm i can just reject the unis accom offer and go private. would this work? would most of the half decent private accom be gone by then? i dont want to end up in a positon where im in accom i cant afford (i noticed that the uni said they can allocate you catered rooms etc even if you put down self catered as your preference).

hopefully this makes sense. and i know its my fault for leaving it so late, that's my bad. thanks for the help

You can apply to some of the private halls through the uni's accommodation service:

Yeah, it generally works. University private rental portal is cost-effective and convenient. Also, some private rentals don't require the deposit and can be cancelled easily. Negotiate the requirement and carefully read the rental document before sign.
