Student Finance and temporary working abroad

Hi

I am due to start my degree in January 2026 and have been offered student finance to cover the cost.

I have been given the opportunity to work abroad in the Netherlands for 3 months temporarily. Will this affect my student finance?

I will still have ties to uk ( address, gp) and I’m not signing up as a resident there as it’s temporary.

Thanks

Hi there, if the work is of a temporary nature, with the sole intention of returning back to the UK after the temporary break, this can be classed as a gap year or voluntary work overseas. This would no normally affect your student finance. However, if we were to ask for evidence that the break in residence was of a temporary nature, we would accept a letter from the employer on headed paper confirming temporary employment including dates / a contract from the employer that clearly shows the employment is of a temporary nature / temporary visas or work permits as proof of this, but these would only be required if requested. Thanks, Stephen.
