What would the average CS or Network Engineering day look like?

Planning on moving to Southampton next year to do their Network Engineering course yet I have no idea what my days will be like and i obviously do not want to run in blind and then have issues with finding a job etc etc.. what would an average day there look like? Doesn't have to be solely southampton students really anyone in a CS field i'd love to know, thanks!

University is just like school. You arrive in the morning, go to lectures, tutorials and practical sessions, get set homework, study tasks and essays to write, then go and do that.

I would have thought a more useful question would be what is the day-to-day life of a network engineer like?

Insightful answer, wasn't exactly what I was looking for but I commend you for your efforts, good job.

p.s "what would an average day there look like?" It's in the post, you probably missed it.

Ah yes my apologies, Solent. They're offering 4 years, 3 + 1 year in placement.

Hiya,

I just finished my 3rd year of CS + AI at the University of Sheffield and the timetables varies for me depending on the semester and year. In my first year, I had a lot more contact hours with classes almost everyday which ranged from either only 1 hour of class or to maybe 5-6 hours. This amount of contact time decreased with each year and in my spring semester of 3rd year I had no classes at all 2 days a week.

There is not a set timetable for everyday and this can vary a lot as well so I would recommend getting settled first and seeing your timetable and then you can schedule your job around it.

If flexibility is important to you, I would suggest signing up as a student ambassador at your uni as this lets you sign up to shifts for whenever you are available!

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions

Hello,

This is exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you so much for the response I will be taking that student ambassador role into heavy consideration (Been building up hospitality WEX for a year now because I was worried I wouldn't find a job) since Solent does that too apparently, thank you again!
