I am currently at the university of Manchester (graduating in July) and this city is VERY expensive to live in compared to everywhere else I have lived (Birmingham, Coventry, Newcastle, Liverpool) in all areas including rent and groceries. It's overpopulated. The bus routes for students to the campuses are VERY crowded (lines like a theme park on weekday mornings and many will go past as 'bus full') and it's near impossible to get a dentist, summer internship, GP appointment or be seen in A&E (my latest stays were 12, 14 and 16 hours.) Hundreds of thousands of students are competing for EVERYTHING so placements/internships/jobs are near impossible to get. Also, if you are disabled, estranged, or face any issues during your time here there are nowhere near enough staff to deal with student support in a timely manner. Nobody knows what's going on in the bureaucratic web and departments do not communicate with you or each other effectively. This is not to scare you. You might thrive on the party scene/busy vibe, but personally I do not recommend it at all. Too many students, not enough resources.

Hello,

Glad to hear you're thinking of coming to York! Hopefully I can give you a bit of insight into what it's like to study law at York.
Law at York is pretty unique compared to other UK universities because of our problem-based learning approach. This allows you to engage with the law practically, working in student-law firms to tackle realistic legal scenarios. These problems often involve multiple areas of the law overlapping, as is often the case with cases in the real world. This approach not only teaches you how to unpack complicated legal scenarios, but also mimics how practicing lawyers approach cases in the real world.

At York, you'll also have access to our Careers and Development Programme. It's an optional programme running alongside your studies which gives you the opportunity to engage with various alumni and employer networking events, as well as work experience opportunities and employability support sessions. I strongly recommend you take a look and learn more as it's a great opportunity!

If you want to find out more about what it's like to study Law at York, you can check out Shreya's blog on what to look forward to at York, or Vaani's vlog where she takes you through what a typical week in her life looks like.

I hope that helps!
Sam
