Medicine at Aberdeen - need some encouragement

Hey! If there are any Aberdeen medical students out there who might be willing to tell me how it is I could really do with it. I've been very nervous about going since it was my only medicine offer and I live in the South of England. My only options are to just do it with the risk of not going back to med school if I end up dropping out or taking a gap year to make sure that this is what I want. I think I applied a bit too ambitiously and so hence only got an offer from Aberdeen. My worries are that it is a long way to travel to anywhere, there won't be a lot of student life and I won't fit it as many students are from Scotland etc. Please can someone give me either encouragement or advice either on Aberdeen or on reapplying (I am also open to studying in Europe). Thank you!!

Please be assured that Aberdeen is a city that is stranded in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do! We are the 3rd biggest city in Scotland with lots to do! We have everything you’d expect to find in a city with the added bonus of the sea and countryside very easily reachable.

The city itself has a very diverse and international population through being the oil capital of Europe, and our medical school and university also attracts students from all over the world. Many of our Scottish students aren’t from Aberdeen either, so moving to the city is a new adventure for them too.

Moving to a new place for university is daunting, but be assured that it’s daunting for everyone, it’s a huge change for you. Staying in halls is a great way to meet new people when you arrive and we have over 50 medical societies alone (and the university has so many) so that’s just one example of how you can get involved and connect with people when you arrive.

You can find some students to chat to here https://www.abdn.ac.uk/study/student-life/chat/
