The Student Room Group

Am I too old for this website

I am a college student and I am going to be transferring to a university next year which I’m so excited about. Plus I just joined this a few weeks ago so this is my first post. I’m 35 in a half.

Not at all- it’s a space for people in education to share their thoughts, feelings and tips! Congrats on the transfer

I don't think so, as I've seen other adult students here too and also some parents aswell are here for suggestions.

@A.bagel123 Agreed... although the majority of people here are of "typical" school/ college / University age, there are quite a few older people here (many of whom are regulars). While their reasons for being here vary, the majority offer more of a role offering advice / guidance, support etc. rather than focusing on the general social / banter aspect. Others were the "legit" age when they originally joined... but just continued to post and never left.

Nonetheless this board is primarily for students... and there's no age limit for being a student; therefore, there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't use this board if you want to. Having said that, parts of this board can be somewhat "ageist" (as per the first reply), so if you want to have the best time here, I would avoid drawing attention to your age unless it's directly relevant to your query. Even if you want to focus on the social side, just be normal and don't try and be hip and "down with the kids" (unless you're 100% you can pull it off), and I'm sure you'll be fine.
Hi there!

I thought I'd hop on this to say there is no age limit to being a student and, as this website is designed for students, you are more than welcome! 😄

I am in my late twenties myself currently studying my second year of my undergraduate degree and felt so excited to head to university too. It is very common and very normal for mature students to be at university for a whole host of reasons and there is no one type of student - we are all unique and pursuing our own personal paths. I have a group of friends studying on my course ranging from 19 to their late 40s and we are all there studying the same degree.

This website can be a great resource for advice and guidance so have a good search, hopefully you can find some interesting posts relevant to yourself and maybe create some more posts too. I really enjoy looking through the posts related to my course and seeing all the variety of experience and career aspirations out there 🧠

Congratulations on starting university next year, I hope you have a wonderful time and welcome! 🥳

I'm your age 😀 I started on here as a teen and just never really left! Though I only really focus on the study forums etc, but I do occasionally browse

@ArtisticMarie Hi there,

I hope that other users comments didn't / doesn't discourage you from using this forum.

Look at this thread... literally every other post is here welcoming you with open arms :five::grouphugs::shakehand:; from what you've written, you seem like a genuine nice person who would get along with most of the people here (regardless of age).
No you're not too old. I'm 41. I've been on this site since I was 20.

Be that as it may, unfortunately, I think the OP got scared off by the first reply.

And yet your flippant actions still created a negative consequence in the world. One can hope you learn a lesson from the experience.

It is what it is. :dontknow:

As per @artful_lounger 's comments, as long as you now start to think about what you say before posting it, I guess it's a lesson learnt (N.B. it may-well save you from sending some embarrassing, cringeworthy messages in future; both on here or in your personal life lol). And yes, I guess you weren't to know that one word from you would have such an impact on her.

We'll have to wait and see if she ever comes back... if she does, hopefully she'll see this thread and realise that she's welcome.

Hey,

Didn't expect to see you back, but it's a pleasant surprise.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the board, and get whatever it is you want out of it.

Have fun.
