Do I need to do English Literature?

My teacher's suggested I drop English Lit. Can I get into uni to study psychology or Primary teaching if I do 7 GCSEs ? I'm doing English Lang, Maths, Combined Science, Drama, Music & Food Tech & nutrition? Or do I need English Literature too?

You don't need English Literature specifically, and the vast majority of universities won't care that you're doing seven GCSEs rather than eight.

Hey @CJDChloe,

Most universities typically require students to have at least a pass (4) in GCSE Mathematics and English; if your teacher suggested you drop GCSE English Literature, a pass in GCSE English Language would still be sufficient for most university English requirements.

For example, Kingston University's BSc Psychology entry requirements are: 'At least two A Levels, or a BTEC Level 3 National: Distinction, Distinction, Merit (DDM) or equivalent qualifications. GCSE Mathematics at grade C/4 or above, or a recognised equivalent, is also required.'

Hope this was helpful and best of luck with your GCSEs,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
