Newcastle Accommodation Application Enquiry

Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to share that my choice has been confirmed by Newcastle University! I’m eagerly looking forward to starting in September. I noticed that applications for accommodations open on 10th June, but I wanted to know the exact time. I’m keen to apply for the park view accommodation, but I’ve heard it’s very competitive, so I wanted to ensure I apply as soon as possible to secure a place.

Thanks,
Jake.

Hi @jacob_tsc

As advised, the portal does open from 10am tomorrow! We would advise being on the webpage 5-10 minutes in advance if possible to be ready to apply. Everyone on the website at 10am will be entered into a randomised queue to access the accommodation portal.

You can register now in advance if you have not done so already: Accommodation Portal.

If you do miss the accommodation you are looking for in this batch, there will be two further batches released, on the 1st July and 22nd July.

I hope this helps! 😊

It seems like a bit of a lottery & no chance to change or waitlist if you don’t get your preference. I also think that gap year students who have an unconditional offer ought to be given more certainty. It would be unfair to not get their choice, have to settle for something else, & then see on results day applicants coming through clearing to get what they could have confirmed back in June!
Also, can you guarantee that only one device per applicant can be used tomorrow? We will be playing it by the book, but would hate to think that others weren’t!

Hi it only let me reserve 1 accommodation spot. Is this normal? I know that other universities allow you to select a second or third option but I wasn’t able to. Thanks

That means you’re guaranteed it so you don’t need a backup. What number did you get in the queue?

@Newcastle University I was on the queue website this morning at 9:30am and received a spot in the queue. Once the page reloaded, I selected 'book' on my chosen accommodation, and then clicked 'confirm'. The accommodation was not sold out, and there should not have been any issues. However, the page refreshed by itself and I was redirected to a page where I had to submit ad application of 3 preferences. The information box said this feature was only intended for students with disabilities, or who had been advised to apply this way by a member of staff, neither of which applied to me. I checked that all my details were correct as advised to do so, which they were, but I still ended up having to submit a preferences application, as I was worried I would miss out on the chance to apply. Is there anything I can do? I am rather upset because the accommodation I wanted was available, and now I am worried I will not get my preference due to an error in the system. Thank you in advance.

Hi

This process today has been a disgrace for a top university in 2025.

The university should be embarrassed by the software meltdown, lack of clarity on process, and having something running whilst students are in exams - parents have taken time of work, rearranged meetings etc to do the application to no avail.

It's madness, you know how many students have put down Newcastle as a firm 1st choice, but then don't have enough rooms available, even if everyone could navigate the process smoothly.

Twice we got to the preference stage after waiting hours and then nothing !

Can you please forward to Vice Chancellor's office and make sure he sees the disgust on here and Facebook forums about what's happened today.

How can you make anyway believe the next tranche will be any better, this today has been an unmitigated disaster.

Completely agree. They offer more places than they have available as on results day some won’t get their grades. My dd already has her grades & is on a gap year this year. This is not how accommodation was allocated last year. When I spoke to someone at open day I knew them that there was going to be hell on today. How many were using multiple devices to get in the queue? Ridiculous & I will also be complaining.

Hi all,

We sincerely apologise to all applicants who had a negative experience trying to use Advanced Booking yesterday.

Despite extensive preparation and collaboration with service providers, the system did not perform as expected.

The Accommodation Team are actively investigating the cause of these issues and are working urgently to resolve them, as they are committed to ensuring a smoother experience for the upcoming releases.

There will be two further releases at 10am on the 1st July and 22nd July where a third of all the accommodation sites will be released each time.

We also want to reassure all applicants that we offer an Accommodation Guarantee. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be guaranteed a room. Please note however that not everyone will be able to get one their top choices.

If anyone has any further queries they can contact the Accommodation Team directly via: [email protected]

Please also make sure that only 1 device per student can be used. The system was overwhelmed yesterday with people (unfairly) using more than one device. We refused to book what was left. Hope this is much better organised on 1st - it’s a shame students can’t request 4 preferred options and this be allocated after results day, when people actually know if they have a place secured .
