If i fail my as level for physics they make me pick another subject anyways. Also onto your other point. You said top unis dont accept business and economics combo. Do you mean oxbridge type unis or Russell group unis. Also what about apprenticeship?

Thats a good point, i was unaware your were doing as levels when i read your post!
It’s specific to individual unis so id suggest checking them individually. It’s not just oxbridge type though. Business can also sometimes be on their list of non-preferred subjects so watch out for that too.
I dont have enough knowledge on apprenticeships to comment
Sorry it cant be more helpful!

I mean its better to not fail one of your subjects. They wouldn't necessarily 'look down upon you.' Top unis don't really like business A level - but obviously it's better to get 3 a levels vs 2 (if you failed physics). What would you do for your predicted grades though because if you drop physics you'll only have 2? Would you take a gap year so you get actual grades? I think you need to have a talk with your school

It's not advisable to take BS and Econ - too much overlap,

I just said that if you actually see my messages. Some lower ranked unis will take both, hence why I said it was better to come out with 3 A levels rather than 2 (if he failed physics)

But my other option is a btec. Surely it’s better than a btec

Im in year 12. I do maths, physics and economics. I want to go and study something finance related at uni. The thing is i suck at physics. Im absolutely dreadful at it. What should i do? Im thinking of picking up A level business as its useful for finance related careers. If i pick up a level business i would have to complete it in one year which i think is not too difficult since i already do economics which is slightly related to business. Would universities look down on me after seeing that i have dropped physics at the end of year 12 and picked up another subject? I honestly have no idea what to do. Can someone give me an idea. Feel free to ask me any questions

Hi there,

I would consult with your teachers and careers advisor firstly to make an informed decision. I also would not underestimate completing a 2 year A-Level in Business in one year, it will be intense.

You will not be looked down upon for dropping an A-Level, so long as you still meet the conditions of the entry requirements and your offer.

However, as it sounds like you may be ensure on what your next steps should be - have you considered taking a gap year?

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

It massively restricts his choices and readiness for uni. Many schools, including mine, don't allow that combination. Why take an A level that restricts your choices?

What degree are you looking at? One BTeC is not so much of an issue as overlapping A levels.

Because what's the alternative? What other A level can you learn over the summer and get a decent predicted grade?

They are taking a gap year .. no need to apply this year. No teacher is going to give a prediction based on having no lessons with them ...

What subject do you think i should take instead of business?

I got places for 5 Russell group unis for econ with econ math's business so you should be fine if you take business

This thread is weird I'm pretty sure you can get into most Russell group unis (probs not Oxford or lose) with business and econ. You said finance right I did a quick search and Manchester doesn't care. If you're looking for a more niche degree in finance if you already haven't search the entry requirements for the course? That will tell you whether to pick up business or not. Did u do business gcse if so I would recommend the switch and there's lowkey nothing wrong with btecs as long as u do like two relevant alevels. Good luck!

Not really, most RG unis don't like business and economics, thus you're chance of getting in is impaired heavily

List the Russell groups and what course.

Warwick
Cambridge

Edinburgh
Bath

I'm not going to continue - it's a waste of time

Hi, I’m on the same boat as you for physics :frown: I find it mildly interesting, but once I start doing any (application) questions it all falls apart :facepalm:Hope it gets better for the both of us

i literally stated unis like Cambridge lse etc discourage it etc OP has maths and for example for bath thats more than enough for a finance course. I’m not saying it isn’t discouraged for some but saying almost all of them is not true.
