Musical theatre advice 1 year Cert He or 3 year BA Honours

My daughter has accepted a place on a 3 year BA honours for musical theatre at TBA . Yesterday she got the news she had been moved off the reserve list for EDA and offered a place on their one year Cert He intensive course . EDA is her dream school & she’s been on the reserve list for the last couple of years . Before this offer she had turned down the 1 year courses to other schools as she was adamant she wanted only the 3 year course which she chose TBA out of 2 others. She is now so divided with her decision as she really wants to go to EDA but knows that she will have to audition again next year for the 3 year & will be training for 4 years . We just would like some advice - has anyone done the 1 year course at EDA , & can offer an insight into it . We’ve weighed up the pros & cons and sensible head says to stick with the 3 year as it’s a great school & especially as we live fairly close so no need to live away from home saving money . But the gut feeling is she should take the 1 year as it’s where she has always wanted to go ! Would anyone be able to offer any advice . Thankyou

That's certainly a dilemma, and one that won't have the same 'right' answer for any two people. Maybe your daughter should compare outcomes. How many people last year got a good degree offer as a result of doing the Emil Dale Cert HE (as opposed to the 6th form which definitely gets great results)? What about TBA grads? Do they get good offers of representation at the end? Are they working? What kind of work do they get, and is it the kind of work your daughter would like to do? I'm not an expert, but I do know a lot of young people training in MT. I will say haven't heard of TBA before, which might mean it's not the most well known and prestigious school, but that doesn't mean it isn't right for your daughter. I have most definitely heard of EDA and know people who have trained there - but not on the Cert HE. A foundation year will also add a year of cost to her training and mean more student debt - is that something she wants to take on?

Thankyou - we’ve had a lot of thinking to do this week & everything you’ve said has been taken on board ,she has reached out to some foundation students at EDA & a few have then gone onto TBA to do their 3 year also . I think she’s made a decision and most prob best thing is to stick with her 3 year place at the moment . Thanks again
