Your A-Level one should do fine! I still use the CASIO FX-991EX

You will need to check your universities regulations, typically most universities do not allow graphical calculators or calculators that can store data (even if it has an exam reset button on the back) for obvious reasons.

As pointed out already the casio fx 991 family is generally a safe bet. Probably the widely used calculator for multiple decades now.

Hi there,

The A-level one CASIO FX-991EX is the one i still use, it covers everything that comes up on the syllabus.
Some students do chose to go with a graphical calculator for plotting graphs and additional helpful features however you do have to put it into an exam mode and that can limit some of it's extra uses.

Hope this helps

The normal A-level calculator is probably best but I used my graphical calculator just because it felt nicer to use and I liked its display. I did have to get it reset for every exams though but it's a small sacrifice. I would much more prefer a better to hold and use Calculator over the flimsy old A-level calculator. If people are really that bothered about it then they will just give you those calculator to use in the exam venue itself.

Most likely you will have to get your calculator approved by the university before taking it into an exam. It's really quick to do and it's best to do early on in the first semester before you forget

Your university will tell you which calculator(s) are accepted in your exams. One uni I went to required you to buy a special calculator from their store which had the uni logo on it, another one you just had to take to the department reception to be approved and they stuck a sticker on it.

In either case, it's university and department dependent so I wouldn't bother buying any special calculator now before you go there.

You won't need a graphing calculator for most courses because most tasks will fall into either of categories a) they want you to use a non-graphing calculator for it or b) you are meant to be using MATLAB or something for the assignment or c) they don't care what you use to do your calculations in which case MATLAB or something is probably better anyway.
