Missed Btec exam due to sickness..what happens to results

My son is taking Btec sport, double award. The morning of his anatomy exam he was unwell and was sick an hour before his exam. He was really poorly, there was a gastric flu doing the rounds. He was sent home by school and did not sit his exam. School submitted whatever paperwork to the exam body to explain his absence. School say we have to wait until results day in August to see if he will be asked to sit the exam at a later date, or if they will give him a grade based on his other work. It seems very vague to me. Does anyone have any experience of a possible outcome? Thanks.

Phone the school and ask to talk to the Exams Office.
If they don't give you a sensible answer, talk to the Head of Sixth.
Then the Headteacher.

If it is Unit 1 Anatomy, that is a core unit and must be passed (or at least a Near pass) in order to claim certification.
It is possible therefore that in August, your son will not receive an overall Grade nor a certificate. Instead he will receive a Notification of performance listing all of the individual units and each grade.
The Exams officer will then need to extend his registration and enter for the next exam (January) which he may need to sit before Pearson will award a cerificate.
I would recommend you go on to the Pearson support portal, select Contact us, then Students, parents and carers tab.
Elect submit a case at the bottom and write down everything you have said here. If you know it include the Centre number (you can ask the school Exams officer for this), and the names and number of every unit he has completed and the individual grades (or marks for exams) if you know them.
They will get back to you with the 'official answer' https://support.pearson.com/uk/s/contactsupport
