I'm going to be staying at Bede hall for my first year at DMU and was wondering if anyone else here will be staying so i could get a chance to meet some new people. I'm going to be studying fine art BA hons as well.

Hi Alice,
That's great news to hear you'll be joining us in October and I hope you are excited!
Don’t worry too much about not knowing anyone at first. I was in the same boat when I started. New place, new course, and no familiar faces and I hadn't met anyone before starting, but DMU does a great job of helping students connect.
There are loads of Freshers events planned, with something for everyone, so it's a great way to socialise and start meeting people. You can also join various societies and sports teams, which is another brilliant way to make friends.
Have you checked out any Facebook or WhatsApp group chats yet? Just a heads-up, these aren’t official and are usually set up independently by students, but they can still be a useful way to start getting to know others. Just be cautious of people 'selling' fresher events and wristbands, they aren't the most trustworthy, I would just stick to what is advertised on the DSU website 🙂
We also have the Ambassador platform, where you can join group chats and chat directly with current students like me! There's an accommodation group chat on there too, and I believe one of our ambassadors has experience living in Bede Hall if you have questions about that. Here is the link:
