Oxford medicine?

Would it be unwise to apply to do medicine at Oxford with these stats so far, obviously taking into account I haven’t sat my ucat yet and what unis would I have a competitive application for?

GCSEs - 9,9,8,8,8,8,8,8,7 - I believe they only want your top 9

Alevel predictions - Geography - A*
Chemistry - A
Biology - A*

Work experience - x1 week at a GP, x1 week at my local hospital in geriatric medicine, x2 weeks at Guys hospital London in two different departments.

Weekly volunteering, regular babysitting, Ambulance cadets, two online courses, medicine related EPQ, core maths, Makaton course, playing guitar in a band

Thanks so much in advance I would really appreciate any advice!

hi!
The previous UCAT cut-offs have been around 3200 to get a place. Quite a lot of applicants who have less than this mostly didn't get a place, however most people with a UCAT around 3000 still got interviews. If you think you can get a strong UCAT, Oxford would be a wise option, however, if you think you may not, personally I wouldn't apply, as it's extremely competitive there. (the graph for 2024 is below). Also, please consider if Oxford and their teaching style is your preference, as most people I know prefer integrated courses, however you can choose whatever you're happy with. Keep building up those super-curriculars to maximise your chance of getting into medicine and I wish you the best of luck!

Hope my advice has helped

Hi Nicole
Thank you so much for replying. That’s very kind of you. I think it does weight highly on my ucat honestly - and I appreciate you saying to take into account the structure of the course as I know Oxford are quite unusual that they don’t have patient contact which is very unique. Many thanks again

Hi
It is so difficult to get an offer of place. My friend's daughter got 11 grades 9, 4A* predicted A levels, 3160 ucat, yet rejected after interview. There is X factor involved, such as luck if the interviewees like you
